Investing in Justice Campaign Sets New Records, Leverages Hundreds of Thousands More

The 2017 CBF Investing in Justice Campaign set new records in individual donations while raising awareness and critical funding for pro bono and legal aid services in the Chicago area. 153 law firms, corporate legal departments and other law-related organizations participated in this year’s Campaign, which was chaired by Jesse H. Ruiz, partner at Drinker Biddle & Reath LLP. Nearly 5,100 individual attorneys and legal professionals contributed more than $1.51 million, both the highest amounts in the Campaign’s 11-year history.

4th Annual Passport to Chicago a Success

On Friday, April 28, more than 200 guests came together for the 4th Annual Passport to Chicago in support of the CBF. At Kendall College, guests enjoyed dishes representing different Chicago neighborhoods, conceived and prepared by members of the Kendall College Competition Club. The creations were paired with a selection of local beers and regional wines, with special tastings provided by Chicago’s Midwest Wine Selections.

Legal Aid Committee—Selected Highlights 2016

The CBA Legal Aid Committee—which the CBF staffs—recently published a compilation of highlights submitted by some of the pro bono and legal aid organizations that participate in the Legal Aid Committee. Legal Aid Committee—Selected Highlights 2016 features news from 29 pro bono and legal aid organizations on: programs and projects; class action; significant litigation; and policy changes and legislation. Not all organizations were able to submit highlights, but this compilation provides an overview of some of the great work happening in our community.

Pro Bono Week 2016—Enthusiastic Crowds, Exciting New Programs

The CBA and CBF’s 12th Annual Pro Bono Week featured a number of successful programs and events that underscored this year’s theme, Caring, One Person at a Time. Rachel O’Konis Ruttenberg, Executive Director of the Family Defense Center, and Andrew Vail, Partner at Jenner & Block LLP, co-chaired the Week, which ran from October 24 to 28. We are delighted that hundreds of legal professionals in Chicago came together to celebrate the important pro bono work being done in our community and to encourage even more pro bono work in the year ahead.

Investing in Justice Campaign Breaks Records in Milestone Year

The 2016 CBF Investing in Justice Campaign marked its 10th anniversary by setting new records across the board while raising awareness and critical funding for pro bono and legal aid services in the Chicago area. A new record of 154 law firms, corporate legal departments and other law-related organizations participated in this year’s Campaign, which was chaired by Susan Levy, executive vice president and general counsel at Northern Trust. More than 5,000 individual attorneys and legal professionals contributed more than $1.5 million, both of which are the highest amounts in the Campaign’s 10-year history.

YLS Texas Hold ‘Em Tournament—10 Years of CBF Support

On Friday, January 30, the CBA Young Lawyers Section hosted its 10th Annual Texas Hold ’Em Tournament to benefit the CBF. Thanks for Making this Year’s Fall Benefit a Big Success!

Thank you to everyone who made the 19th Annual Fall Benefit at The Field Museum a big success! Over 2,000 people from Chicago’s legal community came together on Saturday, November 7 to support and celebrate the CBF’s mission (alongside Sue!). The casual, family-friendly event featured tasty comfort food, unique kids’ activities, a sprawling silent auction, live music, open bar, complimentary parking, and access to the museum’s many popular exhibits, including the newest permanent exhibit, Cyrus Tang Hall of China, and special exhibit Mammoths and Mastodons: Titans of the Ice AgePhotos from the event show smiles all around.

The Chicago Bar Association and the CBF co-sponsored the 11th Annual Pro Bono Week from October 26 to 30, 2015, with the theme Rise Above Your Narrow Confines.
