Based in North Lawndale, LCLC serves the neighborhood’s youth, ages 24 and younger, involved with the criminal justice system. The organization’s mission is to provide holistic integrated legal and social services.

We don’t just deal with a youth’s legal case in isolation, but walk alongside them through whatever they’re dealing with socially as well to become good citizens and leaders, said Danae Kovac, LCLC director of operations and development.

Investing in Justice posts another fundraising record

Chicago Daily Law Bulletin
By Jamie Loo  |  Law Bulletin staff writer

The Chicago Bar Foundation’s annual Investing in Justice campaign broke records again this year, raising $1.81 million and pushing the overall fundraising drive’s total past $10 million in eight years.

The money goes to pro bono and legal-aid services in the Chicago area.

It’s made a lot of good possible and is something the Chicago legal community can really be proud of, said CBF Executive Director Robert A. Glaves.

This past spring, 146 law firms, corporate legal departments and other law-related organizations took part in the campaign, an increase from 137 groups last year. More than 4,300 attorneys and legal professionals donated $1.3 million, and employers kicked in an additional $500,000 which is the highest amount ever raised in individual contributions.

The 2014 Investing in Justice Campaign

CBF Report February/March 2014

Justice People Deserve, Not Just What They Can Afford

The 8th annual CBF Investing in Justice Campaign kicks off this month, and once again thousands of individual attorneys and legal professionals from throughout the legal community are coming together around our common cause as a profession: taking a lead role to ensure that everyone has access to justice, not just people who can afford to pay for necessary legal help. Over the past seven years, the Campaign has grown from the ambitious vision of a few dedicated individuals to a broad-based effort that has now raised a total of more than $8.5 million for the cause. Last year, more than 4,000 individuals at 137 participating firms, companies and organizations (including the CBA) made it possible for tens of thousands of people to obtain vital legal assistance that is often critical to their safety and independence. While we should take pride in the Campaign’s past success, the need in our community is still great, and we have proven that through the Campaign we can make a big impact in meeting this need.

Moving forward past indifference to provide equal justice to all

When we talk about The Chicago Bar Foundation’s (CBF) 7th annual Investing in Justice Campaign, we talk about making a difference. In a sense, though, it’s just as much about standing up to indifference. As lawyers, doing nothing about the lack of equal access to justice in our legal system for so many people in need is just not an option. We cannot stand silent or still on this issue. We must move forward.
