Every year in Illinois, hundreds of thousands of people go to court without the help of an attorney. Nearly two-thirds of defendants are unrepresented, and for some types of cases, that number exceeds ninety percent. While some are “DIY litigants” who prefer to go it alone, the vast majority would rather have an attorney they simply can’t find or can’t afford one.

On February 24, the CBA Young Lawyers Section hosted Miami Nights, an event to benefit the CBF. Nearly 150 people from the legal community came together at the University Club for an 80’s-themed night of casino games, a poker tournament, fun, mingling, and charity. We’re extremely grateful to the YLS, and special thanks to YLS Public Service Manager Alex Memmen, the event committee, the volunteers, and YLS Director Jennifer Byrne. The Young Lawyers Section invites you to The University Club on Friday, February 24 for an evening of table games, a Texas Hold’em Tournament, and South Beach inspired food and drink. Proceeds from the evening support the CBF’s work in Chicago’s legal community to make the justice system more fair and accessible for everyone. Attendees can choose from an all-access pass that includes the poker tournament or a standard casino pass (early bird rate through February 10).
