Justice Entrepreneurs Project Accepting Applications

The Justice Entrepreneurs Project is seeking entrepreneurial and public interest-minded recent law graduates for its next class of lawyers who will begin the program in May 2018.

The JEP prepares talented and entrepreneurial lawyers in the Chicago area to manage innovative, socially conscious, and successful law practices. We believe in the power of entrepreneurial lawyers to make a difference as solo practitioners in the quest to ensure access to justice for all. And after welcoming ten cohorts into the JEP Network, we know it’s possible to do well while doing good. We’re excited to help the next generation of attorneys build businesses by meeting the needs of an untapped market for legal services.

Justice Entrepreneurs Project Accepting Applications

At the Justice Entrepreneurs Project, we prepare talented and entrepreneurial lawyers in the Chicago area to manage innovative, socially conscious, and successful law practices. We believe in the power of entrepreneurial lawyers to make a difference as solo practitioners in the quest to ensure access to justice for all.  Are you a recently admitted lawyer interested in obtaining the skills and resources necessary to build an innovative and successful law practice? Are you interested in making a positive impact on your community as a social entrepreneur? We offer access to mentorship, continuing legal education, a network of like-minded individuals, and subsidized resources to kick start a legal practice targeted at the underserved middle market of potential clients.

The JEP is seeking applications for its next class of participants who will begin the program November of 2017. Applications must be received by Friday, September 8, 2017 to be considered for the November 2017 JEP cohort.

Help an Outstanding Attorney Get Some Well-Deserved Recognition

The CBA and CBF are accepting nominations through May 8, 2017 for the Chicago legal community’s prestigious pro bono and public service awards. These awards celebrate exemplary members of the legal profession who have used their talents and resources to improve access to justice for the less fortunate in our community. The recipients will be honored at the CBA and CBF’s Pro Bono and Public Service Awards Luncheon on July 17.

Newly Released: Grant Guidelines for Veteran and Military Family Hotline & Services

The centerpiece of the Access to Justice Act—one of the CBF’s major legislative priorities the past three years—is funding for a new legal hotline and network of services for Veterans and military families in Illinois. With the funding made possible by the Act now available for the new program, the Illinois Equal Justice Foundation has released their grant guidelines for organizations that want to apply to be part of the program. Grants are anticipated to be announced in the early summer.

Application Available for the 2014 Sun-Times Public Interest Law Fellowship

The CBF currently is accepting applications for the Sun-Times Public Interest Law Fellowship, which provides significant loan repayment assistance to outstanding recent law school graduates who have chosen to pursue careers in legal aid or public interest law. The CBF awards five annual fellowships of up to $50,000 each. Applications are due Monday, July 21.
