As a senior associate at Jenner & Block, Christina Lopez has already set herself apart from the start of her legal career through her extraordinary commitment to her clients and her community. Christina maintains a complex commercial litigation practice focusing on law firm and professional services defense. Despite this busy practice, Christina consistently prioritizes pro bono and community service as well as service to the wider legal profession.
Christina’s pro bono work centers on serving individuals navigating challenging legal landscapes. In partnership with the National Immigrant Justice Center, Christina secured asylum for two clients fleeing LGBTQ+ persecution — one an affirmative case spanning six years through the COVID-19 pandemic, and the other, a defense matter for which Christina developed the case theory, led direct examination in immigration court, and successfully advanced the client’s hearing date. Christina has also spent many years representing incarcerated individuals, including a man who has been imprisoned since age 16, for whom she drafted and led a clemency petition while mentoring junior associates in these processes.
Christina also devotes herself to the legal profession, and she is an active member of Jenner’s Inclusion and Engagement and Pro Bono Committees. Outside of her service to the firm, she serves on the Board of Trustees of the Hispanic Lawyers Scholarship Fund of Illinois. Through the American Bar Association, Christina has served for several years as Chair of the ABA’s Center for Professional Responsibility New Lawyer Steering Committee and as a liaison to the Standing Committee on Lawyers’ Professional Liability — developing specialized programming for young professionals.
Christina’s dedication extends to community service as well. She is part of the executive team of the Alzheimer’s Association Illinois Chapter’s Junior Board. Christina’s dedication to her clients, her community, and the legal profession makes her a deeply deserving recipient of the Maurice Weigle Exceptional Young Lawyer Award.
