The One Big Beautiful Bill (OBBB Act) was signed into law on July 4, 2025 and will bring sweeping changes to Income-Driven Repayment and forgiveness. Current student loan borrowers will see their repayment options limited, with full implementation of the OBBB Act over several different timelines.
Join attorney and student loan expert Heather Jarvis for this content-rich session, including advice on how to decide whether to change repayment plans now or later, how to position yourself to benefit from PSLF, and what uncertainty remains. This 90-minute session includes 30-minutes dedicated to Q&A.
What You Will Learn:
- Participants will learn how to access, read, and preserve key student loan records.
- Participants will understand the steps necessary to earn PSLF.
- Participants will be oriented to presently available Income-Driven Repayment plans.
- Participants will distinguish between two types of federal loan forgiveness: PSLF and IDR.
- Participants will learn how the OBBB Act will phase out currently available repayment plans.
- Participants will understand how payments will be calculated under the OBBB Act’s new repayment plans: Repayment Assistance Plan (RAP) and the new ‘standard’ plan.
- Participants will be encouraged to take specific self-protective steps without delay, including preserving records and filing PSLF Forms.
- Participants will be presented with a framework for making personal decisions around what actions to take to best manage their specific circumstance.
