Why You Should Attend:

As legal aid providers, we often encounter our clients during some of the most difficult and stressful times in their lives. This stress – often compounded by trauma and mental illness – can manifest in escalated behavior that leaves us feeling worried for our clients and sometimes even ourselves. This training by NAMI Chicago will equip attendees with strategies for interacting safely and effectively with people in crisis and educate them on the resources and referrals that are available for our clients who are in need of additional support.

This is the second course of a two-part mental health series. Prior to attending this training, it is recommended that you attend the Mental Health & Wellness in the Workplace Course on September 24.

What You Will Learn:

• Define crisis and recognize signs of crisis
• Explore our role in crisis situations and understand the importance of co-regulation
• Gain strategies and tools for interacting safely and effectively with people in crisis
• Unpack and practice LEAP Method for Crisis Intervention and De-escalation
• Identify support resources for people in crisis
