Take Action: Support a More Efficient and Advanced Judiciary
Funding for the Judiciary is one of the CBF’s advocacy priorities as properly funding the courts is fundamental to ensuring that the justice system is fair, accessible, and efficient. The Judiciary’s proposed budget for the coming year is $7 billion, a very modest increase from last year’s appropriation and just a tiny fraction of the overall federal budget for the entire third branch of government.
The modest increase requested would allow the Judiciary to continue to focus on cost-containment and avoidance and to implement new technologies to improve efficiency and effectiveness. Due to the federal sequestration in 2013, the Judiciary is still working to restore its full functionality, and this modest increase in funding (just 3.9% from FY15) is an important part of that.
Please join us in the effort to support a more efficient and advanced Judiciary by contacting your two U.S. Senators and member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Please thank them for their past support on this issue and ask them to support the Judiciary’s proposed budget for FY16. Phone calls, emails and letters (a personalized letter is best) are all effective and can go a long way. See our advocacy resources webpage for tips on contacting elected officials.
