About the CBF

The Chicago Bar Foundation mobilizes Chicago’s legal community around a cause that is a distinctive responsibility of the legal profession: ensuring that everyone in the Chicago metropolitan area has equal access to justice, particularly the low-income and disadvantaged people who most critically need the protections of the legal system. Through grants, advocacy, pro bono and partnerships, the CBF takes a system-wide approach to improving access to justice and focuses on objectives that are best achieved by the legal community working together.

As the charitable arm of The Chicago Bar Association, the CBF’s work is made possible by the generous contributions of thousands of dedicated individuals, more than 200 law firms and corporations, and many other committed partners. Thanks to that strong support, the CBF awarded nearly $3.3 million in grants in 2011 and continues to play a lead role in a number of innovative access to justice initiatives.

You can learn more about the CBF’s Mission, Vision and Values, the comprehensive Strategic Plan that guides the CBF’s work, and the CBF’s longer term impact and find other pertinent information about the CBF on the menu to the left and elsewhere on our website.
